Weight maintenance and control is very important because as a persons’ BMI increases and goes over the ideal range, the effort the heart has to pump and circulate blood around the body increases. Thus the heart has to work harder to circulate the blood through this greater tissue mass, placing a strain on it.
An overweight person is also at greater risk for developing chronic diseases of lifestyle such as high blood pressure, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes and heart disease. Thus it is very important to practice healthy eating principles and eat a healthy nutritious diet. This must be done in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle and exercise program.
