Water is the nutrient which is the most abundant in our bodies. It is needed to keep the liver (the organ responsible for metabolizing fat and detoxifying the body) healthy and functioning optimally.
Likewise, kidneys require water to remain healthy and fulfil their function. The kidneys being the organs that secrete the toxins and chemicals that the liver has filtered out to be excreted out of the body.
Water allows the skin to remain elastic and helps give it a healthy glow. Drinking lots of water also helps reduce loose skin with gradual weight loss. Water helps to prevent the sagging of skin that usually follows weight loss. Shrinking cells are supported by fluid, which plumps up the skin, leaving it clear, healthy and resilient.
Water supresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat. If the body does not have sufficient water it will re-metabolize fat mobilised and re-deposit it in the tissue.
Thus, drinking sufficient water, will decrease fat deposits.
The kidneys can’t function properly without enough water. When they don’t function optimally the solute load is shared by the liver. When this additional load is carried by the liver, it consequently can’t fulfil its function optimally. One of the livers primary functions is to metabolize stored fat to use as energy in the body. But if the liver can’t operate optimally due to carrying a high solute load from the kidneys, it metabolizes less fat and more fat remains in the body and weight loss stops.
An overweight person especially should drink even more water than a normal weight person because of the greater load of the cell mass and waste on the kidneys and liver.
During weight loss, the liver and kidneys have a higher load of waste and toxins to process, due to biochemicals being released due to harmful chemicals stored in the fat being released when the fat is broken down and due to actual chemicals, that are the natural breakdown product of fat. The body will store harmful chemicals that may even be from the environment in the fat tissue as far as possible from the vital organs. Thus, during weight loss much more water should be drunk, as water helps the body get rid of waste.
Constipation is often relieved by drinking more water. Very often constipation is accompanied by insufficient water and fluid intake. When you do not give your body sufficient water and fluid, it will re-absorb internally from the kidneys and the colon. Substantial amounts of water absorbed from the colon will result in faecal matter becoming hard and dry, resulting in constipation.
Water retention is relieved by drinking more water. When you do not drink sufficient water, the body perceives it as a threat to survival and retains water. The water is stored in the extra-cellular spaces, this is spaces between the cells and is also called interstitial fluid. The result is that puffy swelling is noted in the body especially on the hands, feet and legs.
Diuretics just address the symptom (oedema) and not the underlying cause, it forces the kidneys to secrete stored water, along with essential nutrients. The body perceives this as a threat and replaces the lost water immediately. Thus, the water retention returns continually. The solution is to address the underlying problem, insufficient water intake, and only then will the body stop retaining water to ensure survival.
Thus, we can conclude that water is essential for health and weight loss and to maintain the weight loosed off the body.
